TEWKSBURY: John Eric McLean, age 81, a resident of Tewksbury for 52 years, and retired 28 year U.S.S. Constitution Naval Shipwright, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved husband of Ann Marie (Martin) McLean, with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on August 31, 2010.
Born in Boston on December 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (McLeod) McLean.
Mr. McLean was raised in Woburn and attended Woburn schools.
In 1946, he enlisted in the military and served during World War II in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Department of the U.S. Navy at the Charlestown Navy Yard as the Shipwright of the U.S.S. Constitution.
Mr. McLean was a doting grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He enjoyed many activities including crossword puzzles and watching the Boston Red Sox.
In addition to his wife Ann Marie, he is survived by three sons, Warren A. Hudson and his wife Bobbi of N. Kingston, RI, Jack W. Mclean and his wife Gail of Methuen and David C. McLean and his wife Julie of Dunbarton, NH; two daughters, Debra (McLean) D'Angelo and her husband Robert of Barrington, RI and Cathy (McLean) Sutherland and her husband John of Tewksbury; twelve grandchildren, Derek, Robert, James and Mary Elizabeth Hudson, Matthew and Daniel McLean, Nicole, Chelsea and Alexandra D'Angelo, Emma and Jack Sutherland and Michael McLean; six great grandchildren, and one nephew, Charles Martin and his wife Judy of Wakefield.
Services: Calling hours Thursday, Jan. 14th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral Friday, Jan. 15th, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Dorothy's Church, Main St., Rte. 38, Wilmington. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
