Mary L. Rand, 84

Mary L. (Hurney) Rand, 84, of Lakeville formerly of North Weymouth passed away on Sunday January 10, 2010 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton. She was the beloved wife of the late Laurence V. Rand who died on August 20, 1964.
Born in Cambridge, MA on July 5, 1925 she was a dear daughter of the late Lenora Hurney.
Mary grew up in Cambridge and Somerville. She had made her home in Lakeville for the past year and was a former 57 year resident of North Weymouth.
Mrs. Rand was a retired Quality Control Inspector and had worked for Brady Enterprises in East Weymouth for over 15 years before retiring in 1988. During WWII she proudly helped in the war effort by serving as a welder in military facilities in Boston.
In addition to her working career, Mary was proud of being a dedicated mother to her four boys and also served as a den mother when her sons were younger and involved with Cub Scouts.
A former communicant of St. Jerome’s Church in North Weymouth, Mary was also an active board member at Cadman Towers in North Weymouth.
Mary loved music, especially the music and songs of the 1940’s. She also enjoyed playing bingo and traveling, trips taken to Las Vegas and Europe being her favorite places to visit.
She is survived by her devoted sons William L. Rand and his wife Cheryl of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dennis H. Rand of Carver, Edward R. Rand and his wife Patricia of Lakeville and James C. Rand and his wife Terry of Norton. She is also survived by 2 brothers, 2 sisters and her cherished 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday January 15th at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday January 14th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
