OBITUARY
Leominster
David Gary Shaw, 56, died Sunday January 10 at the Golden Living Center.
He was born in Fitchburg May 26, 1953 and resided in Leominster. He was
the son of Claire B. (Thibeault) Shaw and the late Donald A. Shaw. He was
declared a hero at the age of 13 for saving a 5 year old boy from drowning
at the West Fitchburg pond on June 10, 1966. He was awarded a medal
from the American Legion. He was an avid sportsman. He played Little
League baseball, Pop Warner football, Fitchburg High School football and
hockey. He loved NASCAR racing, the Red Sox and the Patriots. He
graduated from Fitchburg High school in 1972.
He worked for Weyerhaueser Paper Co, in the construction trades and as a
painter and at the Hutchinson Co. at Devens. Retiring in 2007 due to
illness.
David is survived by his caretaker and long time friend Sharon Reeves, his
mother and her companion Francis Thompson, a son Sam Shaw from New
Hampshire and his mother Sheila Shaw Hedley. His son Jeffrey Shaw
Boudreau and his daughter Melissa Shaw of Fitchburg and their mother
Jackie Kinsman. He also leaves a brother Wayne Shaw and his wife Mary
of Fitchburg, his sisters, Karen DeJong and her husband Onno from
DeFuniak, Fl., Donna McVay and her husband Fred of Batavia, N.Y., Sandi
J. Johnson and her husband Jay and nephew Nick of Fitchburg. Diane
Brown and her fiance Rick Godin of Rindge, N.H. Many aunts, uncles,
cousins and step nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his father, his brothers Keith, and Douglas.
Funeral services for David will be held on Thursday January 14, at 11:00
A.M. in the Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. Fitchburg. Calling hours in
the funeral home are Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M. and Thursday morning
from 10:30 to 11:00 A.M.
