Sophia (O'Gara) Latusek, 95, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday January 10, 2010 peacefully at St. Anne's Hospital surrounding by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Bill Latusek.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Thomas and Sophia (Safanka) O'Gara, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mrs. Latusek was formerly employed as a stitcher in area textile mills and as a site manager for the Coastline Elderly Nutrition Program. She later was a lunch aide at the Dartmouth Middle School for many years.
Her greatest joys in life were her granddaughters. A talented seamstress, she loved to sew and knit. She also enjoyed gardening and doing crafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Ashworth of New Bedford; two granddaughters, Amy Solomon and her husband Chad of North Attleboro and Jill Ashworth and her fiancé, Chris Valadao of Quincy; a niece, Linda Dugas and her husband William; a nephew, Edmund O'Gara; and great-grandnieces, Jamie and Rena Dugas.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
