Thayer Mallory “Pete” Kingsley of Willow Street, Mystic, passed away January 7, 2010 at the age of 85. The son of the late Paul and Elizabeth Mallory Kingsley, the Grandson of Julius Forsyth Mallory and Myrtle Murphy Mallory and the great, great Grandson of Charles Mallory.
“Pete” graduated from Tabor Academy and Dartmouth College. He entered the American Field Service and was an intelligence officer attached to the British Army in the Burma campaign during World War II. In the final year of the war he was a Captain attached to the United States 6th Army group in Europe. He also served in the Middle East and North Africa.
“Pete” was an avid sailor and long time member of the New York Yacht Club, Off Soundings Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club. His active international sailing career included numerous Newport-Bermuda, and Fastnet races. He sailed representing the United States in the Admiral’s Cup.
A funeral service will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic on Tuesday, January 19 at 3PM sharp.
