Barbara King, 82, of Derry, NH, passed away peacefully at Catholic Medical Center on Friday, January 8, 2010 after a brief illness. Born and raised in Chelsea MA, she was the daughter of the late George S. and Mary (French) Batten. She attended school there and later went on to work as an RN at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea, where she resided before moving to Derry in 1972. Throughout the changes in Derry, Barbara remained a constant with her family over the last 38 years, where she has formed many friendships and extended family. She was an avid reader, passionate follower of the Red Sox, and loved her pets as if they were part of the family. Because of the tremendous volunteer support she received, she was able to remain independent and stay in her home, a great gift that was never forgotten.
Over the years she benefited greatly and cherished all of the friendships that she formed through the Community Care Givers Organization. She had the unique ability to touch the lives of everyone she met, forging lifelong relationships. Each person has held a special place in her heart, never to be forgotten.
She is survived by her 3 children, Eleanor Daley and husband Greg (predeceased) of Solon, ME, James Killam and his wife Lisa of Trenton, ME, and David King of Hudson, NH, 12 Grandchildren & 9 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Solomon King who died in 1993, her son Allen Scott Muzarol who died in 2005, and her brother George Batten who died in 2009.
Calling hours were held Wednesday January 13th, 2010 at Peabody Funeral Home at 15 Birch Street, Derry from 5 to 7pm. The family requests that donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Community Care Givers Organization at 58 E Broadway, Derry, NH 03038.
