Ernest L. Smith Jr., 69, of Derry, died Thursday, January 17, 2002, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass. after a brief illness. He was born in Medford, Mass. on November 19, 1932, a son of the late Ernest L. and Josephine P. (Masucci) Smith Sr. He was a resident of Derry for the past 36 years, formerly living in Somerville, Mass. He worked for New England Frozen Foods, Inc. in Southboro, Mass. for 28 years, from 1967-1995. He was also a long standing member of the Teamsters Union Local #170. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Avis (Owen) Smith of Derry, three sons, Ernest L. Smith III of Manchester, James A. Smith of Lyman, Wayne P. Smith of Northwood, one daughter, Elaine D. Webster of Derry, five grandchildren, Tonya, Tracey, Nicholas, William and Cameron, one great granddaughter, Asiah Watson. He is also survived by four sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews. He will be loved and missed by all.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22nd at 9:30 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. Friends may call at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry on Monday, January 21st from 4 – 8.
