On January 8, 2010, after a brief illness, Kathryn Haire Greer, surrounded by her family, went to be with her Lord and Savior. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Tifton. Dr. Wayne Roe, Dr. W. Ches Smith III and Rev. Paul Thomas will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons and great grandsons, Ricky Smith, Rusty Smith, Chuck Greer, Spence Greer, Tyler Wall and Jim Wall will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joyful Sound Senior Adult Choir and the Adult II Sunday School Department of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, January 10, 2010, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will lie in state at First Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.
Born January 26, 1922 in Mitchell County to Grover Haire and Ella Spence Haire, both deceased, she lived the majority of her life in Tifton. She was a homemaker and a tireless volunteer in several organizations. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she sang with the Joyful Sound Senior Adult Choir. She loved her church and she especially loved her family and was lovingly known as “Big Mama”. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Greer; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Greer; one sister; and five brothers.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Robert Miles of Tifton; her sons and daughter-in-law, Freddy Greer of Fort Valley and Tony and Kelli Greer of Cochran; seven grandchildren, Melissa Willett Wall, Ricky Smith, Rusty Smith, Chuck Greer, Angela Greer, Spence Greer and Dawson Greer; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
