Marie (Tobin) Makein, 79, of Plymouth formerly of Whitman, passed away in the Golden Living Center at Oak Hill, on Wednesday January 6th after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of Alfred Makein .Marie was born in Brockton and grew up in Whitman and was graduate of Whitman High School, class of 1947.She was the daughter of the late Charles L, Tobin (former Police chief of Whitman) and Katherine (Schappert) Tobin.
Marie was a long time resident of Whitman before moving to Plymouth 10 years ago.
She worked as the school lunch manager at the Conley and Middle schools for more than 22 years. She was communicant of the Holy Ghost Church; a member of the Whitman Mother’s Club and was very active in the Cub and Girls Scouts in Whitman. Marie and her husband enjoyed boating and were members of the Buzzard’s Bay Yacht Club.
In addition to her husband Alfred, she is survived by her five children; Alfred Makein, Jr. of Wareham, Thomas Makein of Plymouth, Stephen of Las Vegas, Brian Makein of Abington and Charlotte Hill of Plymouth, her brothers Charles W. Tobin, Jr., of Hyannis Port and William Tobin of Concord, grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 5; many nieces and nephews She was also the sister of the late Richard and John Tobin.
Her services will be held on Wednesday January 13th at 8:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Her visitation will be held on Tuesday January 12th from 4:00-8:00PM.Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
