Obituary

MOLNAR Michael S. In Newton, Jan. 6, 2010. Age 96, formerly of Roslindale and Derry N.H., Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Fopiano) and Marion (Buck), loving father of Susan Molnar, Eileen Kelley and the late Michael Jr., also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury, Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 8:45 am., followed by a Funeral Mass in the Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre St., West Roxbury at 10 O’Clock. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery. Retired U.S. Navy Chief, enlisted in 1931, he served through World War II on the destroyer USS Campbell escorting convoy in North Atlantic later transferred to the Pacific on USS Milwaukee and Carriers USS Corregidor and USS Monterey and took part in battles to regain the Gilbert Islands, Solomon Islands as well as Saipan and Guam. He also served in Korea and of the coast of Viet Nam, with 30 years active service. He took up Boxing because he said “I was so small that every one kept picking on me.” He learned the art well and was fighting on the U.S.A. team as a featherweight in the 1932 Olympics. Past Commander of West Roxbury V.F.W. # 2902 and member of American Legion Post # 9 and President of AARP Chapter # 784. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John’s Seminary, % Rev.
