Arthur J. Delage, 71, of Hampstead, NH, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in the Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA. Mr. Delage was born in Holyoke, MA on February 18, 1938, the son of George and Geneva (Fournier) Delage. He was a resident of Hampstead for the past 12 years, formerly living in Derry, NH where he grew up. Mr. Delage was a "Jack of all Trades." He began working in his father's bait shop in Lawrence, MA as a boy and did everything else from cutting, splitting and selling wood to being a mechanic and cleaner in bowling alleys to various salvage operations. He was a good bowler who coached Junior League bowlers for a number of years. Mr. Delage was an avid fisherman who enjoyed camping and the outdoors. In his younger days he had quite a collection of muscle cars. He enjoyed collecting various items. He also enjoyed watching movies, from old westerns with John Wayne to 007 and James Bond. Mr. Delage was a trivia buff and was great with numbers and enjoyed playing cribbage. He enjoyed cooking and his family will miss coming home to his excellent home-cooked dinners.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Jackson of Hampstead, a step-daughter, Rebecca Stobbs of Hampstead, a step-son, Randall Jackson of Newburyport, MA, and also by two grandchildren, Ryan Stobbs and Raina Stobbs.
Following cremation the family will be holding private services at their convenience. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., Northeast Affiliate, 2 Wall St., Manchester, NH 03101 or to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215-5306.
