Dorothy Murphy Powell, 83, Clarksville, died Monday, January 4, 2010, at Montgomery Care and Rehab Center. The funeral will be held at 12 p.m.. Friday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Dr. Karen Barrineau officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born December 20, 1926 in Guthrie, KY daughter of the late William Thomas Murphy and Hazel Ussery Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Earl Powell. She was retired from Trane and was one of the first employees to be hired there. After retiring from Trane she worked part time for twenty years at Beachhaven Winery. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Landiss (Fred), Clarksville, TN; a sister, Helen Crutcher, Guthrie, KY; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Black (Dan), Clarksville; and Philip Landiss (Lori), Waverly, TN; two great grandchildren, Katherine Grace Black and Abigail Katherine Landiss; and caregivers, Thelma Hedrick and Lynn Norton. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bell, Dan Black, Ed Cooke, Edward Crutcher, Philip Landiss, Mike McGhee, Grant Shaw, and Greg Taylor.
