TEWKSBURY: Josephine E. (Miele) DeRosa, age 91, a former longtime resident of the Carnation Drive Housing Community in Tewksbury, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2010 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell.
She was the beloved wife of the late John J. DeRosa, Sr. who passed away in 1979 and devoted mother of the late John J. DeRosa, Jr., who passed away in 1980.
Born in Cambridge on August 18, 1918, she as the daughter of the late Cosmo and Giacomina (Leacere) Miele.
Josephine was raised in Cambridge and attended Cambridge schools.
She resided in Cambridge, Somerville, Belmont and Arlington until moving to Tewksbury.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the New Balance Shoe Company in North Cambridge. Mrs. DeRosa previously worked for the Hood Rubber Compnay of Watertown, which later became the B.F. Goodrich Company.
Josephine enjoyed cooking and had a tremendous talent for sewing and crochet.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Josephine was pre-deceased by six sisters and two brothers.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 7th, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in Josephine's memory may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
