Eleanor “Elna” (Johnson) Smith, 100, died January 2, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Carl Gunnar Smith, born in Finland, raised in Jamaica Plain and was a resident of Stoughton since1938. Elna was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. She loved children and was a beloved Nana and babysitter.
She was the mother of the late Astrid (Betty) Johnson. She is survived by her grandchildren: Karen Pearson (husband Richard) of Bridgewater, Heidi Johnson of Stoughton and Marta Doherty (husband Bernie) of Plymouth, Erik Johnson of Sharon. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Nicole Fitzgerald (husband Brian), Linnea Pearson, Erycah Pearson, Kristofer Pearson, and Brian Pearson (wife Lynn). She was the Great, Great Grandmother of Elin N. Fitzgerald and Carley and Jonathan Pearson. Mrs. Smith was the sister of Arthur Johnson (wife Connie) of Brockton and the late Elsie Peterson and Gertrude Nestor. She also leaves her beloved nieces Carolyn Sharp, Laura MacFeeley, Susan Rosa, and nephew, Philip Nestor Jr. She is survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, February 5 at 11:30 AM. Visiting Hours prior to the service from 10:30-11:00 AM. Donations in Elna’s name may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 906 N. Main St., Brockton , 02301, or to Alzheimer’s DayCare at New England Sinai, 143 York St., Stoughton, 02072 .
