SOMERSET … Alice A. (Makarewicz) Gromada, 93, of 1144 S. Main St., died Friday, January 1, 2010. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Gromada. She has been a resident of Clifton Rehabilitation Center since 2007.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Michael and the late Catherine (Grabasz) Makarewicz. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church.
She was one of the founders as well as the Treasurer and a Director of St. Stanislaus Federal Credit Union and a delegate to the Cyr Chapter of Federal Credit Unions. She retired the St. Stanislaus Credit Union in 1990.
She was one of the founding organizers of the St. Stanislaus Parent Teacher Association.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Seniors and a member of the Holy Rosary Society.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Saint Vincent de Paul Society Auxiliary, and assisted husband Joseph in many St. Vincent de Paul activities.
She was awarded the Marian Medal in 1974 and served on numerous diocesan committees including the Catholic Charities Appeal and the Bishop’s Ball. She was also a member of the Democratic City Committee
She is survived by a son, Edward M. Gromada and a daughter-in-law, Madeleine (Thibault) Gromada of Boston, MA and Jamestown, RI; a grandson, Matthew D. Gromada of San Francisco, CA.
She was the sister of the late Felix Makarewicz and the late Ann (Makarewicz) Pizio and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Tuesday at 9AM from the BOYKO MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 709 Broadway, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10Am at St. Stanislaus Church, Rockland Street, Fall River. Calling hours Monday 4 – 8 PM. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
