HAMPTON, NH-Stephen Barbett, 91, a resident of North Hampton, NH and formerly of Lawrence, MA., passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 surrounded by family at the Oceanside Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, NH.
Born in north Andover, MA, Mr. Barbett attended the local school system. He worked in the entertainment industry for over 65 years, including managing the Broadway, Palace, and Warner Theatres in Lawrence, MA. He had been a member of the former St. Ann's Church and later St. Augustine's church in Lawrence. In his life he enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening and caring for his family.
Son of the late Stephen and Mary Barbett and son-in-law to the late Lawrence Police Officer Peter J. Manning and his wife Julienne Manning, Mr. Barbett lost his beloved wife Theresa M. (Manning) Barbett 5 years ago after 57 years of marriage. He is survived by his children Stephen Barbett IV of North Hampton, NH, Richard D. Barbett and his wife Linda of Goffstown, NH, Karen McKenna and her husband Bernard of Plantation, FL, and David P. Barbett and his wife Sharon of Bellevue, NE. Mr. Barbett is also survived by his cousins Barbara Thibault and Mary Lange of Methuen as well as eight grandchildren and three great grandsons. He was also the father of the late John Barbett.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael's Church in North Andover, MA. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
