Melvin Hogan, 70, of Tifton and Kernersville, North Carolina died Friday, January 1, 2010, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2010, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Salone Green and Rev. Ken Johnson will officiate with burial to follow in Union Grove Church of God Cemetery. Ian Nelson, Richard Hogan, Scottie Hogan, Randy Hogan, Buddy Connell, Tim Connell and Larry Taylor will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tonya Nelson, Tiffany Overton, Sarah Overton and Shauna Nelson. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 2, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Hogan was born on October 22, 1939 in Plant City, Florida and was the son of Samuel D. Hogan and Naomi Baker Hogan, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Edna Hogan; three brothers; and one sister. He was a contractor and a member of Harvest Temple Church of God in King, North Carolina. He served four years in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved and enjoyed having fun and spending time with his entire extended family.
Mr. Hogan is survived by his wife, Joann Scott Hogan of Tifton and Kernersville, North Carolina; two daughter and sons-in-law, Debbie and John Nelson of Clemmons, North Carolina and Valorie and Lionel Overton of New Bern, North Carolina; five sisters, Ann Thompson of Dallas, Texas, Dot Connell of Tifton, Pat Connell of Lenox, Jody Brooks of Ocilla and Dinky Taylor of Tifton; five grandchildren, Tonya “Turkey” Nelson, Tiffany Overton, Sarah Overton, Ian Nelson and Shauna Nelson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
