Robert Kirkwood, age 80, of Duck Hill, MS, died December 30, 2009 in the Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, MS. He was born February 25, 1929 in Earle, AR to the late Donald C. and Sarah Morris Kirkwood, and was a member of the Duck Hill Baptist Church. He was veteran of the Korean War and was retired from McQuay Manufacturing in Grenada. He enjoyed gardening and fishing many years before his health declined.
A graveside service is planned for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Duck Hill Cemetery in Duck Hill, MS with Rev. Don Harding presiding. A ceremony of military honors for Kirkwood’s service to his country in the Korean War will precede the burial.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Kirkwood of Duck Hill, MS; two step-daughters, Margaret (Wayne) Sandefur of Thomaston, GA and Mary Jane Wiggins of Duck HIll, MS; two sisters, Donna Harding of Columbus, MS and Nancy Ross of Hot Springs, AR; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Kirkwood; a son, Nathaniel Kirkwood; a step daughter, Kay Mann; and a brother, Billy Kirkwood.
