GLOUCESTER: Shirley A. (Cressy) Deering, 78, died Christmas Eve in the Twin Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Danvers following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Gardener T. Deering, who died in March of 2006.
Born in Gloucester on November 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Willis P. and Clara (Hodgkins) Cressy.
Shirley was employed for many years as a secretary at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. She had also worked as a clerk at local variety stores.
She was an active member of the Trinity Congregational Church. Known to have perfect pitch, she also enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sherman and Annette (Bryant) Deering of Gloucester, daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Steven Langille of Amesbury and grandchildren, Lori Langille of Quincy and Sean Langille of Lynchburg, VA.
Her funeral services will be held privately by the family in the Cherry Hill Cemetery.
