June M. Stamets, 83, of Montgomery, PA died Thursday December 31, 2009 at her daughter's home in Chester, NH. Mrs. Stamets was born in Williamsport, PA on February 6, 1926, daughter of the late Willard and Grace (Doctor) McMillen. She was a 1943 graduate of Montgomery Clinton High School and had been a lifelong resident of Montgomery. She had been employed at "The Grit" newspaper in Williamsport and at the former Montgomery Mills in Montgomery. Mrs. Stamets retired from Koppers in Muncy, PA where she had worked as a key punch operator. She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Huss and her husband Michael of Chester, four grandchildren, Jon Huss of Manchester, NH, Katherine Huss of Chester, Jason Stamets and Nicole Stamets of Kansas City, MO, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Dunning Stamets in 2004 and by her son, Jeffrey Stamets in 2003.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, memorial services and burial will be held on Montgomery, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Ave., Montgomery, PA 17752. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH is handling local arrangements.
