Kevin W. MacDonald 58, a Franklin resident for more than 26 years, and a former Needham resident, died Monday December 28, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following a long illness. He was the husband of Loraine (Thomas) MacDonald.
Born in Boston, September 30, 1951 a son of Marie Ann (Bartsch) Ray of Waltham and the late William G. MacDonald, he was raised and educated in Needham, and was a 1970 graduate of Needham High School.
Until his illness forced him to stop working, he worked as a sales representative for AH Harris & Sons in Walpole.
He served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He attained the rank of Aviation Electrician’s Mate 2nd class, and was awarded the Viet Nam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in May 1974.
He was active in Franklin Youth Baseball and Franklin Youth Hockey. He was a coach and longtime supporter of youth sports.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 36 years and his mother are two sons, Scott W. MacDonald of Franklin and James I. MacDonald of Quincy, four brothers Paul MacDonald of Franklin, William MacDonald of Charlestown, NH, Richard Ray of Holliston, Lawrence Ray of Middleboro, and two sisters Elaine Alden of Waltham, and Denise Dela Salva of Medfield, and one grandson Thomas Joseph MacDonald.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Thursday December 31st, at 8:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 9AM.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
