Obituary


Henry E. Matthews, of Plymouth formerly of Hanover, died on December 25th at the age of 91 at the Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham. Beloved husband of the late Doris (Nosiglia), he is survived by his sons Henry J. of Marshfield, James R. of Sagamore Beach, Thomas C. of Plymouth and John P. of Waldorf, MD. He also leaves 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Ralph S. and Fred G. Matthews. Henry joined the U.S Army in 1940 as an enlisted soldier and attended the Infantry Officer Candidate School and received his commission as a 1st Lt. in 1942. He served as an Infantry Unit Commander and was an Assistant Operations and Training Staff Officer in a battalion of security force during WWII. A self-employed contractor he enjoyed stamp collecting, and traveling especially to Hawaii. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday December 31 at 10:00 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rte 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) on Wednesday December 30,from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory my be made to The Jordan Hospital Cancer Center, 275 Sandwich St, Plymouth, MA 02360
