George A. Dufresne (Ret. Brockton Police Officer) 85 years old of Brockton died Thursday December 24, 2009 at Heights Crossing. He was the husband of the late Gertrude L. (Walsh) Dufresne. He was born in Brockton, a son of the late Edmund J. and Mary E. (Avery) Dufresne. He had been a life long resident and attended Brockton High School and received an Associates Degree in Criminology at Massasoit Community College. During WW II he served in the US Navy in both Atlantic and Pacific Theaters and participated in D-Day plus 2. He was an appointed member of the Brockton Police Reserve Force and in 1954 he was appointed a permanent member by the former Mayor Herald Lucey. He retired in 1982 with the rank of lieutenant. Mr. Dufresne was a member of the Brockton Police Relief Association, Seville Council Knights of Columbus and former member of the Mass. Safety Officers League; Club National and the DW Field Golf Course. He was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church and former President of the Holy Name Society. In his free time he enjoyed golf and politics.
He is survived by a son, Albert G. Dufresne and his wife Janet of Bridgewater; a granddaughter Emily C. Dufresne of Bridgewater; a brother John Dufresne of Brockton, a sister Eva May Rocha of Taunton and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Michelle and Denise Dufresne and brother of the late Albert, Edmund, Gerald, Louis and Richard Dufresne, Florence Mahan and Evangeline Landry, Louise Dufresne and Beatrice Munice. .
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 8am. Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, W. Bridgewater at 9am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery.
