Loving grandmother of Ashley, Robert and Stephen Welch all of Derry, NH, MacKenzie and Austin Butler of Henderson, NV. Sister of the late Charles Hurley. Funeral from the Dello Russo - Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Wednesday, December 30th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 3 thru 7. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the charity of your choice.
Mrs. Dorothy A. Butler, age 79, of Wilmington formerly of Charlestown, passed away December 25th at the Wingate of Andover nursing facility following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late James Butler. Born and raised in Charlestown she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Cushing) Hurley.
Mrs. Butler worked for many years as a waitress at Rocco's Restaurant in Wilmington where she made many friends and formed many wonderful relationships. She was also a board member with the Wilmington Housing Authority and served as Tenant Commissioner for nearly twenty years. She was a true advocate for people in need. She loved to volunteer her time helping with the Wilmington Food Pantry and the Share Program. She was also very active at the Wilmington Senior Center and was a member of the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Lodge. Mostly devoted to her loving family, Dorothy also enjoyed dancing and shopping in her leisure time.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Dorothy is predeceased by her brother, the late Charles Hurley. She is survived by her loving sons, Robert Welch and his wife Monica of Derry, NH, James Butler and his wife Carol of Henderson, NV. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Ashley, Robert and Stephen Welch, MacKenzie and Austin Butler.
