MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA: Blanche L. (Stanley) Lemay, 90, died Thursday, December 24, 2009 in the Ledgewood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Beverly following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Walter Lemay who died in March of 2004. They shared fifty-seven years of marriage.
Born in East Douglas, MA on April 4, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Laura (DeCoteau) Stanley. A lifelong resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea, she was a graduate of Manchester Story High School.
Blanche was very active in the community. She was a long standing member and a past president of the Manchester Women’s Club; a member of the Horticultural Society and the Friends of the Trees and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, where she was a member of the Parish Council. She was also a life member of the Amaral-Bailey Post #113 American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Lochner of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Dale Snyder of Rutland, MA; a son, Glen Lemay of Manchester-by-the-Sea; two sisters-in-law, Anne Stanley of Beverly and Mary Beaumont of Methuen and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Philip Lochner and two brothers, Robert and Otis Stanley.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Church, School Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Ledgewood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 87 Herrick St., Beverly, MA 01915 or to the Hospice of the North Shore 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-107, Danvers, MA 01923.
