Obituary

Acushnet – Jose L. DaCosta, Jr., 25, of Acushnet was lost at sea on September 8, 2003. He was the fiancé of Cathy Coe of New Bedford.

He was born in New Bedford son of Jose L. and Caroline (Souza) DaCosta of Acushnet and resided in Acushnet most of his life. He attended the First Congregational Church at Lunds Corner, New Bedford. He attended Acushnet Public Schools as well as Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, Rochester. He held a captain’s license and was employed by various local fishing vessels as a commercial fisherman for the past several years.

Mr. DaCosta played for the Acushnet Police baseball team for 4 years. He especially enjoyed fresh and salt-water fishing with his fiancée Cathy, his son Tyler and his best friend John Beauvais.

In addition to his parents and fiancée he is survived by a son: Tyler DaCosta of New Bedford; a brother; Gary DaCosta of Acushnet; a sister Angela DaCosta of Acushnet; his maternal grandparents: Manuel and Shirley (Gagne) Souza of Acushnet; his paternal grandmother: Beatriz (Gomes) DaCosta of New Bedford; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was grandson of the late Joel H. DaCosta.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service which will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 12:30 P.M. at the Seamen’s Bethel, New Bedford.
