NORTH DIGHTON - Robert J. Phillips of N. Dighton, formerly of Taunton, died at the Life Care Center of Raynham on Dec. 17, 2009, after a period of failing health.
The husband of Elizabeth A. (Ventura) Phillips, he was 82 years old.
Born and educated in Taunton, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Mary (Baptiste) Phillips, Jr.
Serving in both the U.S. Merchant Marines during WW II, and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Phillips was later employed by the former N.E. Telephone Co.
He retired in 1992 after working there for many years as a supervisor.
A member of the Knights of Columbus and the Italian Social Club, he enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques.
In addition to his wife of N. Dighton, he leaves two daughters, Joyce M. Graham and her husband James of Taunton, and Jane E. McCormack and her husband John of Stoughton; a brother, Wayne Walker of Taunton; five grandchildren, Robert P. Stubbs of Nashville, TN, Joseph J. Graham and his wife Elizabeth of Swansea, Sarah E. Graham of Taunton, Jenna McCormack of Stoughton, and Tabitha Gomez and her fiancé Dan Lequin of Taunton; two great granddaughters, Madelyn Graham of Swansea, and Emily Lequin of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Judith S. Sullivan.
Mr. Phillip's funeral will be private at the convenience of the family.
His burial will be private at the MA National VA Cemetery in Bourne.
A memorial service, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held at the New Hope Christian Chapel, 6 Meadowhill Court, S. Easton on Monday, Dec. 28th at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
