Marion McPherson, 83, of New Bedford died Monday December 21, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beverly M. (Burgo) McPherson.
Born in Yemassee, South Carolina, he lived in New York City for most of his life before moving to New Bedford 20 years ago.
Mr. McPherson was formerly employed as a shipping clerk at the Garment Center in Manhattan for 30 years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.
Survivors include five children, Yvonne Sheriff, Robert McPherson, Darren McPherson and Shaunell McPherson, all of New Bedford, and Shameeka Inabnett of Queens, NY; a sister, Bessie Wahle of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Benjamin McPherson, Wilhemina Matthew, Sadie Perry, Corinne Ling, DeSota McPherson, Ernestine McPherson, and Eloise Malcolm.
His Funeral Service will be held on Sunday at 7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 4-7 PM prior to the service. Relatives and friends can meet at the Funeral Home on Monday at 11 AM to form the funeral cortege to the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne for committal services at 12:30 PM.
