CHARLTON-Robert R. “Husky” Reed, Sr., 88, of Charlton, died Monday, December 21st in UMass Memorial Hospital. His wife of 62 years, Lucille C. (Whitehead) Reed, died in 2006. He leaves five sons, James R. Reed of Charlton, Robert R. Reed, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Dudley, Kevin M. Reed of Worcester, Joseph P. Reed and his wife Amy of Hubbardston and Paul S. Reed and his wife Teresa of New Marlborough; four daughters, Sharon M. Arnott of Charlton, Corine M. Stevens and her husband Mark of Auburn, Mary Ann Cooke of Templeton and Lucille M. Reed of Houston, TX; his brother, Francis X. Reed of Worcester; two sisters, Doris M. White and Cecelia G. O’Brien of Worcester; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. His son, Dennis J. Reed, his grandson, Kevin R. Arnott and his sister, Rosemary Ricciuti, predeceased him.
Mr. Reed was born in Worcester, the son of Homer D. and Rose (Carney) Reed. He was a graduate of South High School. Mr. Reed was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 30 years, until his retirement in 1983. He was a WWII U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran. Mr. Reed was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and its Men’s Club and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed photography.
The funeral is Monday, December 28th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, December 27th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
