Obituary

William F. "Bill" Webster, 85, formerly of 20 Milford Ave., died Thurs., Sept. 11th in Christopher House of Worcester after an illness. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Gertrude (Sidebottom) Webster, a daughter Judith A. Webster of Holden, and two sons Robert B. Webster and Richard P. Webster both of Worcester. He was grandfather to Jamie, Bryan, Alaina and Victoria Webster of Worcester.

Mr. Webster was born in Rockingham, VT, on Aug. 31, 1918, the son of William H. and Maude (Spicer) Webster. He was raised in Worcester and graduated from South High School. Mr. Webster was employed by Crompton and Knowles Corp. as a stationary engineer for 25 years. When the company relocated to SC, he then worked in the power plant at Rutland Heights State Hospital. At the same time, he was the night foreman of the maintenance department at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology from 1960 until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Webster was a World War II Staff Sergent, serving in the 3rd Battalion, 253rd Infantry. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star medal with First Oak Leaf cluster for meritorious achievement in ground combat. Mr. Webster was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he volunteered countless hours of service for the maintenance of the building. He was an avid reader. During his retirement, he participated in many programs at the YMCA.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P. O. Box 16924, Worcester, MA 01601 or to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Rd., Miami, FL 33136-1494.
