Harold R. Lemire 90, of 400 Mendon Rd. N. Smithfield, and formerly of Avenue C, died Friday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Rita (Dorval) Lemire. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of 2010. Mr. Lemire was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Cyprian and Clara (Richard) Lemire, and was a city resident for most of his life. He worked in several area textile mills including Hanora Lippett and Worcester Textiles in N. Providence retiring over twenty five years ago. He was a WWII Marine Corps veteran serving at Guadalcanal and the Northern Solomon Islands during his six years of service. He was a member of the VFW in N. Smithfield, and an avid golfer and Patriots and Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife, Mr. Lemire is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Anatole Lemire, Nellie Dauphinais, Jeannette Grenier, and Violet Blaine.
His funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Church, South Main St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham.
