Marcia J. Hanson, 71

Marcia J. (Sanderson) Hanson, 71, of Mansfield passed away on Thursday December 17, 2009 in the presence of her loving family at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the former wife of the late John W. Hanson.
Born in Boston, MA on December 24, 1937 she was a dear daughter of the late John and Helen (Saunders) Sanderson.
Marcia grew up in Boston and the Whitinsville section of Northbridge. She was educated in Whitinsville schools and was a 1955 graduate of Northbridge High School. After raising her family she returned to school and was a 1987 Cum Laude graduate of Wheaton College in Norton where she received her degree in Psychology. Following graduation from Wheaton College, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of visiting China
She was a dedicated homemaker to her family and was very proud of her accomplishments and her work as a Substance Abuse Councilor at the former Southwood Community Hospital in Norfolk. Marcia had also worked for several area newspapers as a Paste Up and Graphic Artist.
A member of the Orthodox Congregational Church in Mansfield, Marcia enjoyed traveling, photography, computer graphics, watching movies, trips to the ocean, the simple pleasures of walking on beaches, and had a sweet tooth for good fried clams.
Marcia was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed the wonderful times spent with family and her grandchildren and loved Doberman Pinscher Dogs. She volunteered her services at Doberman Pinscher Rescue Leagues and was a longtime friend of “Bill W.”
She had made her home in Mansfield for 46 years
She is survived by her devoted sons Hugh S. “Skip” Hanson and his wife Linda of Mansfield and William J. Hanson and his wife Anita of Plainville. She was the dear sister of Linda McAnneny and her husband Kevin of Brockton and is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Kyle and Marissa Hanson both of Plainville, Eric and Ian Falcone both of Mansfield and is also survived by her loving aunt Ruth Parker of Jamaica Plain.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a service in celebration of Marcia’s life, to be held on Saturday January 2, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, Marcia’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Doberman Rescue Unlimited 52 Tenny Road Sandown, New Hampshire 03873.
