BEDFORD-Edward Jean Montplaisir Jr. 69, died December 16, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family from a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Manchester on January 19, 1940 the son of Edward and Louise (Messier) Montplaisir Sr. He attended St. Anthony High School where he excelled in Track and Football and attended Boy’s State in Durham, NH.
He received a business degree from the University of MA and in 1960 he graduated from Wentworth Institute with an architectural engineering degree. He joined the US Army after college and served three years in Korea where he achieved his black belt in Judo. Upon his discharge, he trained the 902nd Air Force men in the art of Judo. He was assistant coach for the Bedford Girls Softball League and also headed a couples bowling league. He retired in 2005 from Queen City Glass as an Estimator for the company. He was predeceased by his first wife Constance (Laplante) Montplaisir in 2002.
IN HIS LIFE: He is survived by his wife of five years Colette (Soterion) Montplaisir of Bedford, his three children Jeanne Montplaisir of Montana, Ronald Montplaisir and his wife Karen (Clancy) Montplaisir of Bedford, Angela Montplaisir of Bedford and Sharon Strong of Michigan, Angela’s life partner; four stepchildren, Scott and his wife Kriss (Gamans) Soterion, Kevin and his wife Marybeth (Horne) Soterion of Bedford, Donna Soterion of Manchester, Jeff and his wife Michelle (Leonard) Soterion of Manchester, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Paul Montplaisir and his wife Denise (Poirier) Montplaisir of Charleston, SC and Peter Montplaisir; two sisters Cecile Montplaisir Goudreau of Northport, FL, Suzanne Montplaisir St.Onge of Northport, FL. He was predeceased by one sister Therese Montplaisir Wright of Goffstown in 2002. He also leaves aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
SERVICES:Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 at the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.,
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford, Meeting House Rd. Committal prayers will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel.
