Helen “Nonni” Marie (Falzarano) Spillane – 93 years young, died at Life Care Center in West Bridgewater on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas F. Stewart and John Spillane; her parents, Joseph (Guiseppe) Falzarano and Gladys (Davis) Falzarano; and, her son Thomas L. Stewart of Middleboro.
Helen was born in Watertown, MA, later moving to West Bridgewater where she graduated from Howard High School. Mrs. Spillane trained at the Waltham Hospital School of Nursing and also attended Burdett College in Boston. After years of hospital and private duty nursing, she retired from the Foxboro Company where she worked as a facility nurse for many years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton and the Twentieth Century Catholic Club. She was an avid reader and corresponded with Barbara Delinsky, one of her favorite authors. At the age of 92 she began knitting baby blankets for the local hospitals. Her greatest joy was in giving of herself and being with her family and friends – of which she had so many.
She was preceded in death by her brother Neil Falzarano, sisters Ann Cyr and Doris Bish. She is survived by a brother, Mario Falzarano of West Bridgewater, her step children Ann Marie Burt of Fairhaven, Paul Spillane of Bridgewater, Jack Spillane of Louisiana, and Kevin Spillane of Plymouth. Her grandchildren Scott Stewart of Brockton, Sean Stewart USN, Laura Stewart of New Hampshire and Jessica Stewart Bien of Seekonk; her step grandchildren Lee Burt of North Carolina, Deborah Meggison of South Dartmouth, Christopher Burt of Plymouth, Seth Burt of Cotuit, Martha Dauphinais of South Yarmouth, Katherine Sylvia of South Dennis, Kami LeVern of Mississippi, John Spillane III, USAF, Kelly Cooksey of California, Scott Spillane of Georgia, Kristy Spillane of Louisiana, Patricia Sergio of West Bridgewater, Paul Spillane of Connecticut, Nancy Sergio of Bridgewater, and Denise Diliddo of Bridgewater; her nephews Robert Falzarano of Carver, David Falzarano of Beverly, Jerald Cyr of Georgia; nieces Claudia Griffis of Georgia and Judy Harris of Florida; and her daughter-in-law Sally Stewart of Bridgewater.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church West Bridgewater at 10 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 pm.
