Jessie Gooch was born August 3, 1939 in Water Valley, MS to the late Will and Syvilla Carr Gooch. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 16, 2009.
He confessed Christ and was a member of the Martin Street Church of Christ.
He was a retired employee of Motts for some 20 plus years and 4 years with Yalobusha County.
Jessie has been married to Helen L Gooch for the past 25 years.
A visitation is planned for Monday, December 21, 2009 from 4 until 6 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Rev. Ed Garrison presiding. Interment will take place at the Church of Christ Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Ira Gooch, Sr., Sherman Gooch, Jr., Jermaine Gooch, John Eddie Jones, Terry Sayles, and James Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennie Joe Sayles, John Brooks, Sidney Williams, Wilton Telford, and Freddie Phillips.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Will and Syvilla Gooch; two brothers, Billy Gooch and Sherman Gooch, Sr.; and two sisters, Essie Terrell (his twin) and Willie Bell Ellis.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and caring wife, Helen L. Gooch; 2 sons, Michael (Annie) Gooch of Water Valley, MS, and Ira (Tanice) Upshaw of Oxford, MS; 4 daughters, Lenora (Gregory) Woodard and Jessie S. Gooch, both of Water Valley, MS, Lena Upshaw of Coffeeville, MS and Renna Rockett of Oxford, MS; 6 step-children, Cleveland Williams, Becky Williams, and Lisa Williams, all of Water Valley, Sidney Williams, James Williams, and Jerry Williams, all of Tupelo, MS; 4 brothers, Jimmy Gooch, Cornelius (Irma) Gooch, and Herman Gooch, all of Water Valley, MS, and Robert Gooch of Utica, NY; 1 sister, Allie B. Sayles of Water Valley, MS; 4 brothers-in-law, Eddie L. Terrell of Davenport, Iowa, Wilton (Martha) Telford, George (Janet) Telford, and John Eddie Telford, all of Water Valley, MS; 4 sisters-in-law, Shirley (Charles) Sims, Lula B. (John Lee) Caldwell, and Patsy Telford, all of Water Valley, MS and Bobbie L. (Freddie) Phillips, of Horn Lake, MS; 23 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
