Obituary

Elsie Thelma Schramm Christie, 79, went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2009. A resident of the Stonington area for most of her life, she was most recently a resident of Villa Maria Nursing Home in Plainfield.

Elsie was born at the family homestead in Old Mystic on September 24, 1930 one of ten children to Dewey and Gertrude (Pierce) Schramm.

Prior to her retirement, she was a silk screen printer at the Sirtex Printing Co. in Old Mystic.

Elsie was a member of the Old Mystic Methodist Church and the Reliance Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary in Old Mystic. In her healthy years, she was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. She enjoyed playing bingo, attending family gatherings, and cherishing her grandchildren who were the highlights in her love of life.

She was married to Samuel F. Christie on July 3, 1949. He died in April 3, 1970. Elsie leaves her son, Samuel F. Christie Jr. & wife Susan of Griswold; her siblings, Christine Hinman of Ledyard and Herman Schramm of Old Mystic; two granddaughters, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her loving friends.

She was predeceased by seven siblings; Dewey Schramm, Richard Schramm, Robert Schramm, Ruth Trevena, Anna Thompson, Margaret Collins, and Helen Davis.

Elsie’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Sunday from 3-5pm. A service will be conducted there on Monday at 1pm with the Rev. Mark Porizky, Pastor of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
