Obituary

Robert H. Cook, 74, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in Evergreen Cemetery with Dr. Mike Ruffin and Rev. J.W. Taylor officiating.

Mr. Cook was born January 23, 1935 on Monticello, Georgia to the late Hulon W. and Myrtle Long Cook. He moved back to Fitzgerald in 1965 from Jesup. Mr. Cook was a 1953 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, a 1955 graduate of South Georgia College and attended the University of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Cook was former owner-operator of 129 Package Store, former employee of Walker Tire & Battery, former assistant administrator of the Ben Hill County Hospital and a former employee of Retail Credit Corp. in Atlanta, Birmingham, Macon and Jesup. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, where he also was a member of the Baracca Sunday School Class, a former Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. Mr. Cook was a former member of the Elks Club, Lions Club, Jaycees and a Cub Scout headmaster. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Patsy Ashley Cook; daughter & son-in-law, Carol & Jimmy Davis; son & daughter-in-law, Ashley & Dee Ann Cook, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, James & Ashley Davis, Lauren Patricia Davis, Kristin Ann Cook, Ashley Elizabeth Cook & Rob Cook and a brother & sister-in-law, Charlie Reid Cook & Barbara of Waycross as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to Blue-Gray Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1447, Fitzgerald, GA 31750 or to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 367, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
