Mrs. Exilia A. (Letendre) Bastien, age 91, of Dracut, formerly of Lowell, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday December 13, 2009 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell. She was the widow of Leo Bastien who passed in 1962.
She was born in Lowell on December 4, 1918, daughter of the late Peter & Hedwidge (Lanseigne) Letendre.
She was a parishioner of the former St. Jean Baptiste Church in Lowell, where she also sang in the choir. In addition, she also enjoyed doing volunteer and charity work for the parish activities and fund raisers. She also did volunteer work for St. Joseph's School.
According to the family, she was an avid bingo and card player.
She is survived by her five children,Estelle Falardeau and her husband Henry of Dracut, Alfred Bastien and his wife Sandra of Hudson, NH, Rita Bastien of Haverhill, Pauline Sherman of Dracut, and Robert Bastien of Lowell; three brothers, Wilfred Letendre and his wife Rita of Dracut, Gerard Letendre of Lowell, (Godchild) Armand Letendre and his wife Jeannette of Lowell; two sisters: Irene Carbonneau and Yvonne McKenna both of Lowell; 7 grandchildren, (Godchild) Brenda Caunter, Deborah Hammond, Mark Falardeau, Nancy, Leo and Christopher Jennison, and Stacey Sherman; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was also sister-in-law of the late Irene Letendre and Rita Rochette.
Relatives & Friends are invited to her visitation on Thursday Dec. 17, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, MA 01854. Funeral Friday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 AM at St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish (St. Therese Church), Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital-501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
