Obituary

Robert, “Bob” Mariano of Haverhill, MA died at the Lahey Clinic on 12/10/2009 after a long battle with cancer. His daughter, Carolyn, was at his side at his death. He was 80 years young.

He was born in Lawrence and attended Methuen schools. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1957. He was employed by General Tire and Rubber Company, formerly known as BOLTA Products, for 32 years in Maintenance. After his retirement, he was employed by the Berkeley Retirement Home as the Maintenance Supervisor.

Bob enjoyed growing many different species of flowers from seed and planting them in the gardens he cherished the most. He is recognized by the Community and the Women’s Advisory Board of the Berkeley Home for the beautiful grounds he created at his hand during his years of tenure at the Berkeley Home and at his daughter’s home in Biddeford Pool, Maine. A special article in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune recognized his accomplishments with the like.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Merrimack Valley Golf course for many years. He was also an accomplished bowler for the BOLTA bowling league at the Stadium Lanes in Lawrence.

As well, he always enjoyed his seafood platters and lobster cookouts at his daughters’ Maine seashore homes with close family and friends. His leisure hours were spent listening to his musical jazz collection.

His wife, Anna Patti-Mariano, survives him. His loving daughters, Carolyn Mariano of Biddeford Pool, Maine and Maryellen & her husband Norman DeRuiter of Bath, Maine, also survive him. Additionally, two grand children survive him. Benjamin Albis and his wife, Nichole Berg, of Bedford, NH. and Sarah and her husband Jonathan Marines of Sanford, Maine. He had 3 great grandchildren Allison, Katelyn and Emma.

His sisters, Josephine Pellegrino of Methuen, MA and Florence Patti of Utah, his brothers, Dominic Mariano of Andover and John Mariano of Methuen also survive him. He is pre-deceased by his brothers Carl, and Mario and sister Rose Mariano-Patti. He had many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9th at 11:00 am at the Berkeley Retirement Home, Searle’s Chapel located at 150 Berkeley St., Lawrence, MA. Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH has care of the arrangements.
