Obituary

Melvin J. Root, 96 of Franklin died December 14 in his home; he was the husband of Alice C. (Bishop) Root for the past 66 years.
Born in Claremont, New Hampshire, October 31, 1913 the son of the late Jethro B. and Abigail (Hatch) Root, Mr. Root had lived in Franklin for most of his life.
Mr. Root, a farmer, had operated the Echo Farm in Franklin for many years.
Mr. Root was a member of the Franklin Federated Church. He was a skilled woodworker, and repaired antique furniture as a hobby.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Timothy Root and his wife Gwyn of Douglas, Patricia Morse of Franklin, Susan Hehn and her husband Robert of Franklin and Marilyn Cook and her husband Warren of Wrentham.
He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 17 in the Franklin Federated Church at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation will be in the Church from 10 - 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Memorial Fund of the Franklin Federated Church, 171 Main St., Franklin, MA 02038.
