Obituary

WEBSTER – Dorothy L. “Dot” (Dragon) Madden, 86, of Webster, died Sunday, December 13, 2009, at home.

She leaves her husband of 63 years, Edward A. Madden, Jr.; four children, Charles T. Madden and his wife Susan of Knoxville, TN, Ellen L. Wike and her husband Carl of Framingham, MA, Nancy Zamagni and her husband Charles of Putnam, CT, and Sheila Sicard and her husband Timothy of Westfield; 8 beloved grandchildren; 2 special great grandchildren; a sister, Cecelia Willette of Quinebaug, CT; a brother, John Dragon of Webster; nieces and nephews.

She was born on October 5, 1923, in Webster, a daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Gogolinski) Dragon. She graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1941.

Mrs. Madden first worked as an inspector at the American Optical Company in Southbridge. She was also a sales clerk at various local stores. Above all, she was a homemaker for her family.

She was a communicant of Saint Louis Church, where she sang in the choir. Along with her husband, she counted the weekly collection at the church for several years. She was active in the Saint Louis League of Catholic Women for most of her life, serving many years as its treasurer. She was a weekly adorer at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. She belonged to the Silver Dippers of the Webster Senior Center.

A memorial Mass will be held Friday, December 18, at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:30 to 10:00 AM. Donations in her memory may be made to Saint Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake Street, Webster, MA 01570 or to the Autism Society of America, 4340 East West Highway, Suite 350, Bethseda, MD 20814-3067. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street,Webster.
