NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Cruz (Reina) Medeiros of New Bedford died on Friday 12-11-2009 at the age of 72 after a 4 year battle with Dementia. She was the wife of Emilio Medeiros whom she was married to for 26 years. Mrs. Medeiros was employed as a packer in the fish plant for 35 years until her retirement in 1999.
She was a family person, very loving and generous toward everyone she knew. She lived her life helping others & doing good deeds. She enjoyed traveling, playing Bingo and family cook-outs.
She was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Cruz Collazo and Julio Collazo.
She lived in New Bedford for 32 years. She was a member of The Portuguese Sports Club. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.
Survivors include two brothers, Wilfredo Jesurun Mendez and his wife, Loida Jesurun Vasquez of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Julio Collazo and his wife Dionicia Collazo of New Bedford. Five sisters Julia Calderon and her husband Rafael Calderon of Santiago, Dominican Republic, Blanca Iris Hernandez and her husband Jose E. Hernandez of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Gladys Teixeira, Norma Collazo Porche and her husband Arthur J. Porche Sr. of New Bedford, Mass. Five daughters Rosalyn Mercado and her husband Jose Mercado, Yvette Roman and her Boyfriend Stephan Pina, Nancy Morales and her husband Alex Morales of New Bedford, Alma Basile and her husband Sam Basile of Kentucky, Cruz Maria Boggs of New Jersey and Step daughter Zelia Suarez and her husband Michael Suarez of Bourne, Ma.; 21 Grandchildren & 27 Great-Grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Angel Luis Collazo.
Visitation at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St. NB on Monday from 5-8 P.M. Her service will be at the funeral on Tuesday at 10 A.M., burial will follow.
