Obituary

Dominic R. “Mingo” Citroni, 86, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Catherine “Kitty” (Connolly) Citroni, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on May 19, 1923, he was the son of the late Louis and Donata (Leone) Citroni. A halfback on the undefeated 1941 football team, he graduated from Holten High School in 1942. He then served honorably in WWII where he saw extensive action and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
Mingo was employed for over thirty years as a Danvers firefighter, joining the department on Apr. 26, 1950 and retiring as a lieutenant on Feb. 7, 1981. He also served the town as sealer of weights and measures and was employed by Lyons Ambulance Service for many years.
A member of the Knights of Columbus, Thomas E. Power Council 1505, he also was a member of the Danvers VFW Charles W. Davis Post 2359 and the Vittori-Rocci Post 56 Italian American War Veterans.
In addition to his loving wife, he leaves his children and their spouses, Ruth and Peter Richardson of Keene, NH, Faith and Joseph Yablonski of Londonderry, NH, Mark and Sheila Citroni of Bolton, CT, and Neal and Mary Ann Citroni of Danvers, a brother, Rollie Citroni of Danvers, a sister, Lena Toomey of Danvers, his grandchildren, Michael and Larissa Corvo Citroni, Timothy and Kelley Citroni, Amy and Ian Fournier, James P. Richardson, David Citroni and his fiancée Jessie Zuberek, Beth Citroni, and Eric and Caitlin Yablonski, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and brothers, Peg Murphy and Joseph, Gerard, Carlo, and Zeke Citroni, and a dear niece, Elizabeth Connolly.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 9AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2-6PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
