WAYLAND: Charles J. “Charlie” Cope, Sr., 74, died unexpectedly on Wed. December 9, 2009 at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick after being stricken at his residence.
He was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1935 the son of the late Charles O. Cope and Marie E. (Deegan) Cope.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda (McEvoy) Cope of Wayland. He was the beloved father of Debbie C. Hogan and her husband Jay of Holliston; Charles J. “Charlie” Cope, Jr and his wife Andrea of Wayland and Cathie Cope of Columbia, MD. He was the loving and cherished Pop-pop of Blair E. Hogan of Holliston and Charlie, Tommy and Jimmy Cope all of Wayland. He is also survived by his sister Marie E. Rowland of Davidsonville, MD.
Charlie has been a resident of Wayland for the past 33 years and previously resided in Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep School in Philadelphia, PA and received his BA in Economics from Villanova. He had a long and distinguished career in the sales division of Dupont in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Dakota, Missouri and retired from the Boston office. He was a member of the Retired Mens Association of Wayland and was an accomplished athlete in his earlier years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family at the shore in New Jersey for many years. He was an avid sports fan and found great enjoyment in supporting and attending his grandchildren’s sports and activities.
Visitations will be held on Sunday. December 13, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Wayland.
Private family services and interment will be held at their convenience.
In lieu of flowers, for those who desire gifts in Charlie’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
