Obituary

WEBSTER – Veronica K. Madden, 80, of Golden Heights, died Thursday, December 10, in Saint Camillus Health Center, Whitinsville, after an illness.

She leaves a brother, Edward Madden, Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Webster; a sister, Sheila Madden, a Missionary Sister of the Immaculate Conception of Paterson, New Jersey; and several devoted nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles Madden who died in World War II, and by two sisters, Margaret Bombara of Douglas and Kathleen Madden of Webster.

She was born in Webster, the daughter of Edward Madden, Sr. and Martha (O’Neil) Madden, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1946 and from Hahnemann Hospital Nursing School in Worcester in 1950.

Veronica was a registered nurse at Rutland Veterans Hospital at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She worked in admitting for 17 years at University of Mass. Medical School in Worcester before she retired in 1977.

She was a member of Saint Louis Church. She enjoyed reading and bowling and was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. She especially treasured her time spent with her faith, family and friends.

Veronica devoted herself to others, to family and to friends. She will forever remembered in their hearts.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 19, at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until the time of the Mass. Donations in her name may be made to St. Camillus Health Center, 447 Hill Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., Webster.
