Obituary

Methuen, MA – Earle J. “Gus” Childs, 84, died Tuesday December 8, 2009 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut Gus was the son of the late Earle F. and Elizabeth (Humphrey) Childs.
For 44 years Mr. Childs had been employed as a Chemist with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts before his retirement.
An active communicant of Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem, NH, Gus also served as a Eucharistic Minister. In “1943” Gus was a graduate of Lawrence High school, and in college he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Boston College.
During World War II Mr. Childs served his country in the United States Navy and served on the following ships: the NRS in Boston, the NTS in Sampson, NY, and the USNH in Oakland, Ca., and was honorably discharged with the rank of Quartermaster Third Class.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years; Janet T. (Newcomb) Childs, children; Mark J. and his wife Laurie Childs of Hudson, Ma., Elizabeth J. Childs and Partner Mary Chinetti of Sandown, NH, Christopher J. and his wife Deborah Childs of Litchfield, NH, Eric P. and his wife Maria Childs of Londonderry, NH, Jennifer A. and her husband John Kirsch of Hooksett, NH, 10 grandchildren one sister Helen Gould and one brother Donald Childs both of Methuen and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday morning at 9:30 in Mary Queen of Peace Church with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
Friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
