WORCESTER___Andrew J. Cesnickas, 84, of Worcester, died Monday, December 7, 2009 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 119 Belmont St. His wife, Lora (Redmond) Cesnickas died in 2004.
He leaves a daughter, Andrea M. Loconto and her husband, Frederick R. of Worcester; two grandsons, Andrew Loconto of Alexandria, VA., and James Loconto of Worcester; a close friend, Pam Dowell of Worcester; a sister, Anna M. Mange of Worcester and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Joseph Cesnickas, Alice Simmons and Mary Cesnickas. He was born in Worcester, a son of Andrew A. and Aniela (Cekanauskas) Cesnickas and has lived here all his life.
Mr. Cesnickas was a warehouse worker 17 years for Coghlin Electric Co. and retired in 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic - Pacific theater including Saipan. Andrew was a member of St. Casimir Church and graduated from Commerce High School.
Mr. Cesnickas owned several harness race horses and was a longtime fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Celtics. He also enjoyed the family Labs, Mason, Grace and Kayla and especially following Masons progress with K-9 hydrotheraphy.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Joseph Daigneault and the staff of UMASS Memorial Medical Group, Shrewsbury and Dr. Howard Alfred of UMASS Memorial Medical Center and the nurses there on South 5 for the care given to Andrew.
The funeral will be held on Friday, December 11 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
