George A. Roeschlaub, Sr., age 78 of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Charbonneau) Roeschlaub.
George was born in Lyons, NY on Dec. 22, 1930, the son of the late Charles and Carrie (Baker) Roeschlaub. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Parish and served in the U.S. Army.
George was well known by many as "The Corn Man" and could be found during the summer months selling corn and other produce on Westford Street in Lowell for many years. Earlier in his life, he was a mover with Fauvel Moving Comany in Dracut for many years.
George enjoyed fishing and was a life member of the CCA club and Club Passe Temps in Lowell.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons and 8 daughters and their spouses, Cecile "Cis" and Dennis Gardner, Arthur and Robin Roeschlaub, all of Lowell, Jean and Ron Williams of New Ipswich, NH, Rose and Mike Lobas of Chelmsford, Lucille and Chris Daykin of Homosassa, FL, Annette Roeschlaub, George and Linda Roeschlaub, Jr., Rita and Angel Rivera, all of Lowell, Leona and Timothy Lemery of Pageland, S. Carolina, and his caretaker/daughter, Irene and Robert Smith of Lowell; two former sons-in-law and special friends, Brian Monty and Ronald Coulombe of Lowell; 31 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the father of the late Doris Coulombe who died Nov. 7, 2006, grandfather of the late Nelson Smith, and brother of the late Carrie Taylor, Carl Roeschlaub and Doris Lee.
Relatives and friends may call at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 4 to 8pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Michael Church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
