Lewis Emanuel DePina, 82, of Fairhaven was called home to be with Jesus for eternity on December 4, 2009.
He was the loving husband of 52 years to his loving wife Ilda (Santos) DePina.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Manuel and Izulina (Gonsalves) DePina, he lived in Fairhaven all of his life.
Mr. DePina was a well known bulldozer operator since he was 17 years old and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #4 for 49 years.
Lewis was an avid gardener and he put his heart and soul into his vegetable garden year after year. This kind and gentle man will be sadly missed by his loving family and dear friends.
Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Marie Almeida of New Bedford and Leslie DePina of Georgia; a sister, Julianna (DePina) Perry of Acushnet; 3 grandchildren, Casey, Marissa and JR; 4 great-grandchildren.
He was the proud father to his late and only son Lewis Emanuel "Poncho" DePina, Jr. and brother of the late Jonathan DePina, Rhonda Lasicell, Joseph DePina, Daniel DePina, Mary Timm and Agnes Rodrigues.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, December 7th from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett.
