Obituary

Sister Lorraine Cote (formerly known as Sister M. Alfred), 86, a Sister of Mercy for 69 years, died December 1, 2009, after a brief illness. The daughter of Alfred and Blanche (Marcoux) Cote, she was a native of Manchester, New Hampshire.
Sister Lorraine received her B.A. degree in English from Mount St. Mary College, Hooksett, N.H., and her M.A. in French from Rivier College in Nashua.
For many years, her ministry was in the field of education, both as a teacher and administrator. She was also assistant superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Manchester.
Sister Lorraine taught elementary grades at Immaculate Conception School in Penacook, N.H. She was a French teacher at St. Mary High School in Dover; Mount St. Mary High School in Nashua; and St. John and Bishop Brady High Schools in Concord. She also served as principal at Bishop Brady High School.
Sister Lorraine was director of novices for the Sisters of Mercy in New Hampshire, and was elected to community leadership in 1974. She served in that position until 1980. She returned to the classroom and taught French at Trinity High School in Manchester until 1983. For the next 15 years, Sister Lorraine was a pastoral associate at St. Anne Parish in Manchester.
Family members include two brothers: Francis Cote of Manchester and Raymond Cote of Bedford; two sisters: Adoree O’Donnell of Manchester and Suzanne Brown of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call at the Warde Health Center, 21 Searles Road, Windham, New Hampshire from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8. A prayer service will be held in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel in Windham at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Burial will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
